Objects looking black and opaque to the eye can reveal to be transparent at other light wavelengths.
This new system operating in the Near Infra-Red range allows measuring a whole new set of objects that was previously impossible to evaluate.

Example data

As a few examples, one can use the system to evaluate internal stress in parts related to face recognition or security applications, made of special resin that is opaque at visible light, or residual stress in chalcogenide glass after laser processing.
